EVENT INFORMATION PACK FOR 2024 SYBC – NOW AVAILABLE

The event information has now been published and emailed to all competitors and volunteers, and is also available HERE.

With the expertise of the setters, the hospitality of the host venue and the opportunity to meet other climbers from around the country, you are guaranteed a good days climbing at the Scottish Youth Boulder Championship.

SYBC is open to any young eligible climber, and is also one of the rounds in the All Nations Series of bouldering and roped national events in Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland (in association with the BMC and Mountaineering Ireland).

As a national competition, the SYBC boulders are of a higher standard than the bouldering found in the ClimbScotland Youth Climbing Series (YCS). It is aimed at young climbers who wish to compete at this higher level and those who are trying for selection to the Scottish Development and National Squads.

As this is the Scottish Championship, ClimbScotland will recognise as Scottish Champions those competitors’ resident in Scotland in each category who rank 1st amongst the Scottish competitors, regardless of their overall rank. The winners in each category of the competition on the day will be recognised as the winners of the Scottish Round of the All Nations Series.

As the final round in the All Nations Series we will also be announcing the winners of the overall series winners for each category at this competition.

PLEASE NOTE – the English and Welsh rounds for 2024 have been cancelled. The Scottish and Irish events will proceed as planned, and participation in BOTH will result in an overall series ranking for the All Nations Series. For more information please visit GB Climbing and Mountaineering Ireland.

Scoring

ClimbScotland has a live score results service (see the link at the top of the page), from which all competitors and parents/guardians can check their scores after the qualification round.

Categories

There are five categories which are based on your year of birth:

Spectators and Volunteers

Space for spectators is very limited during qualifying due to the size of the venue and building regulations. We ask that only one adult attends from each family. However, we do require up to 60 volunteer judges during the qualification round and this number is included in the limit.

We can offer these positions to parents/carers on a first-come-first-served basis, guaranteeing they gain entry to the event. Judging the boulders in the qualification round is not difficult and we can usually pair new with seasoned volunteer judges. We also hold a judges briefing in the morning before the the competition. Volunteers MUST book through the booking portal, either through the competitor booking, or through the dedicated volunteer booking. For the remaining places for spectating, priority will be given to parents of younger climbers (Youth D/Youth C) as well as any competitors that may have additional support needs.

The climbing area will be segregated from spectators for the safety of the competitors. Spectating will be confined to specific areas in the venue. Please note that there is a narrow walk-way between the two bouldering units. Please do not stop here to view competitors as it will block competitor movement.

However, all parents/carers can attend the final round to spectate and cheer on the finalists free of charge. The final is being held on the competition wall in the main (North) unit. Again the walk-way will need to be kept clear of spectators as the competitors come through to the ‘Competition Wall’ from isolation.
